Mark your calendars for the annual NJ-ACEP Emergency Department Directors Meeting on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at The Heldrich Hotel, New Brunswick, beginning with dinner at 6 pm. New Jersey’s health care leaders will be in attendance; guest speakers to be determined. Great networking and information exchange – complimentary to ED Directors, Assistant Directors, NJ-ACEP Board and leadership.
Registration information to follow.
Earlier this month, NJ-ACEP met with the new Medical Director of the State’s Medicaid Program, Thomas Lind, MD, FAAP. I was joined by Drs. Robert Sweeney and William Felegi. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce Dr. Lind to NJ-ACEP, and discuss concerns and issues with the Medicaid program. Dr. Lind was eager to hear reports regarding inappropriate referrals (from FQHCs, etc.), lack of networks for Medicaid enrollees, and other problems with carrier plans.
We discussed the recent ED Diversion pilot program (conducted at Newark Beth Israel and Monmouth Medical Center); a report on that pilot is attached. (Warning: it’s 171 pages long) Additionally, The NJ Hospital Association has developed a tool kit (also attached) to assist other EDs to duplicate some of the pilot project initiatives. It’s my understanding that this tool kit was mailed to the NJ hospital CEOs as well.
Dr. Lind asked NJ-ACEP to invite all the ED Directors to submit Medicaid issues/problems/trends to him. He needs to hear what’s happening in the field. Please forward them to me ([email protected]) so I can compile and forward (confidentially, if desired).
Dr. Lind also committed to providing ED Directors with a list of plan contact information – so problems can be reported directly to those handling the NJ program. See below.
